This is something I wrote years ago and never did anything with. I just found it again digging through some old stuff, so I thought I'd do something with it and post it here. Tell me what you think.

When Legends Die: Longevity
When legends die who hears the sorrow cries of man
they fade into the somber void
as the fates draw our heros into the abyss
Destiny is gifted to the men apart
the men of a different breed and heart
and with it goes the call
that only legends hear and answer
We are most alone when we are with the myths
that is why some are forgotten
and with that forgotten past departs the memory
the longevity of our history
those glorious victories and defeats
the efforts of the holy few, the immortals of their epoch
lost is the honor, the glory, the courage
of those that have risen to the pantheon of our hearts
as they retreat from our minds and return to dust
only to be left with the sands of time
and when that hour glass is empty they fall to the earth
forgotten but not completely, as we trod over them in travel
forging new paths, new myths, the legend of our annals
With the earth they remain to keep the greatness that is our race
Waiting until the day, when they may be discovered again
to inspire legend anew in men.
The greatest fear is the time, when legends die
for who are we if not but men descended from nostalgia
thus I make my plea to you, do not let us lose the few, the hope
For fortune favors those that were bold
and in our souls we hear the call, the voice of those who time has told
had stepped into the arena.
Only time will tell of the legends not yet held
Before our time is done our own legend will have begun.
Who will remember the longevity of man
I have one wish, that is to see not death but rebirth
to one day pass into the realm of the immortal
to live and breathe again
when my time here has found it’s end.
For what do we have if not hope.
