My name is Cindy and I am a mom of two beautiful daughters and an amazing husband. My beautiful girls names are Hailey and Lauren and both were born with medical issues...
Hailey was born May we noticed that her right eye was not opening and looked smaller than her right eye... we took her to her first specialist appointment at 13 days old and found out that she had coloboma and micropthalmia of the right eye. She has had to to have two out patient procedures that have both been a nightmare but we are blessed to say that we are done with procedures there! She is now four and wears glasses for near sighted left eye and her right eye is still and always will be 5 mm smaller than her left eye has no direct vision but does have some peripheral vision. We are blessed that things turned out well with her.
Lauren was born April 5, 2007 Right at birth I noticed that her left eye was a bit smaller than her right and her pupils were pear shaped. We took her in to find out she has coloboma in both eyes and is legally blind and her vision is about 20/300 to 20/400 and sees a vision specialist once a month for therapy. We took her to her first specialist appointment when she was 5 days old but it was because of a heart murmur... we found one hole then two and then three, she had open heart surgery at 4 months old and the surgeon was able to fix all but the mitral valve prolapse and she takes heart medication twice a day for it. She had ear tubes put in August of this year and seems to be doing well now. Everything has slowed down for the girls and we thought that life would be normal pace for us for awhile right...WRONG!!!!!!
I recently found out I have a brain disorder called chiari malformation type 1 with syringomyelia, it is congenital (been there since birth) but often starts to show symptoms between birth and 50 years of age. I am 25 and the symptoms hit hard and fast, there is no way to cure it with medicine and therefore I must have a major surgery that will take 5 hours and leave me in pain for 3-5 months. Unlike my girls I cant get CHP or Medicaid and my husband just started a job to better our family life and we are unable to use his insurance because it is considered a pre-existing condition. I am hoping to set up a donation in my name at my bank and plan for all money to go directly to them and all bills paid directly from them. I also plan to have whatever money is left and split it in two: One half going to a cancer research charity because I have had members of my family pass from several types of cancer and the other half to go to another charity voted on by those who donate. Please if you are interested in helping out shoot me a message and I will give you info needed!
